JOIN TEACHERS: YES ON J!

Q: What is Measure J?

A: Measure J is the Tustin Unified School District Classroom Repair, Safety and Quality Education Measure on the November 5th ballot. Voting Yes on J will address community identified priorities including health and safety upgrades.

Q: Why do Teachers Say Yes on J?

A: Many TUSD elementary and middle schools were built over 50 years ago and while well-maintained some of the classrooms, science labs and facilities have never been upgraded after being used by thousands of students. YES on J upgrades and repairs our older schools so children can learn in safe, modern classrooms.

Some TUSD schools were built so long ago they don’t meet today’s standards for students with disabilities. Some sites still contain asbestos and lead pipes. In some cases, old infrastructure is causing water leaks and sewage backups – YES on J fixes these needs.

Q: What school needs do YES on J address?

A: YES on J:

  • Repairs and upgrades aging classrooms and school facilities includingdeteriorating roofs, plumbing sewer and electrical systems.
  • Provides modern labs, career technical facilities and equipment so students are prepared for college and in-demand careers in fields like health sciences, engineering, robotics, technology and skilled trades.
  • Provides the classrooms, facilities and technology to support high quality instruction in math, science, engineering and technology
  • Removes hazardous materials like asbestos and lead pipes from older school sites
  • Upgrades older schools so they meet the same academic and safety standards as newer schools
Q: Is Measure J fiscally accountable?

A: Yes. Measure J requires transparent accountability, including a project list detailing exactly how the money will be used, an independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee, and public disclosure of all spending.

By law, all funds must be used for our local schools and cannot be taken by the County, state or federal governments.
